Vehicle Description

The 914 was produced for seven model years (1970 to 1976), undergoing some minor, but still significant changes along the way. In 1970 and 1971, Porsche offered the 914 and the 914/6. In 1972 914s weren’t a whole lot different from the 1970 and 1971 cars, but included a passenger seat adjustment, air vents in the dashboard and improved insulation and sound deadening. It was also the final year for the 914/6.

1973 was the first year for major improvement in the 914. When the 914/6 was dropped, it was replaced with the optional 914 2.0, with a boost of 15 horsepower. Early 914s had a reputation for sloppy shifting, thanks to the shift mechanism being mounted on the very tail of the transmission, two thirds of the car away from the actual shifter, but 1973 ushered in a new “side-shift” shift mechanism that worked much better than the early “tail-shift” transmissions.

This 1973 914 2.0 comes with a Sunflower Yellow exterior and a brown leather interior.  It is a beautiful example of a very clean and well preserved 914 where many have not survived the ravages of time and neglect.  The body is very solid with no damage or dents and the paint shows very well and clear. There is no rust in the engine compartment or in the battery box showing that the car has been very well taken care of. Very light and minor surface rust shows on the underside of the car, which can be expected with a car that is 46 years old.  Considering that Porsche did not take much precautions in rust prevention for these cars in the 70's survivors are becoming harder to find.

The interior is in excellent condition with no tears in the upholstery or cracks in the dash.

The original Fuchs wheels show very nicely with no scrapes or curb rash and the spare tire and Fuchs wheel are also original.

The engine is very strong with compression readings  @ #1 cylinder @140   #2 @140   #3@140  and  #4@145.  The transmission shifts very smoothly and solidly.

Our very thorough pre-purchase inspection report shows this to be one of the nicest 914's we have seen in quite sometime and repairs done right after the PPI are,
Alternator replaced.
Battery replaced.
Fuel hoses replaced.
Shift linkage rebuilt.
Brake hoses replaced.
Brake fluid flushed.
Connect heater hose.
Gauge light bulbs replaced.
Alignment.

The 914 had been sitting in storage for awhile and needed a few items to get it back out on the road. This 914 2.0 will make a very nice addition to someones collection and with excellent examples being sought after this one will find a very nice home.
